Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“Be the change you want to see in the world.”   Mahatma Gandhi

So, how has the first month of the New Year gone for you so far?

Any resolutions still intact? Or hanging on by the slimmest of threads?

Any habits or behaviors you wanted to change? Have you, yet?

Any family or community needs or issues to be addressed? How’s that going?

What about the problems, turmoil, heartaches or injustices in the world?

I’m not sure any of those questions are fair. Life is tough enough—just getting from morning until night—often finishing each day slipping into bed exhausted. So adding anything else to that journey—well maybe it’s just too much to even think about, let alone do anything about.

We’ve been reminded recently of the brevity and uncertainty of our time here. And the truth is, regardless of the length of our time here, our lives will have left an imprint on the world and on the lives around us.

What will it be? Will anyone notice?

Will any lives be better, because we were here?

Isn’t that what God calls us to do? Will God be pleased with us?

So what changes will we make? What imprint will we leave? I wonder what it could be. I wonder what it will be.

In his song “To Believe,” Matthew Evancho shared this to think about—

“Before I lay me down to rest, I ask the Lord one small request
I know I have all I could need, but this prayer is not for me.

Too many people on this day, don’t have a peaceful place to stay
Let all fighting cease that your children may see peace,
Wipe their tears of sorrow away.

To believe in a day, when hunger and war will pass away
To have the hope amidst despair, that every sparrow’s counted,
That you hear each cry and listen to each prayer.

Let me try always to believe, that we can hear the hearts that grieve
Please help us not ignore, the anguished cries of the poor,
Or their pain will never leave.

To believe in a day, when hunger and war will pass away
To have the hope amidst despair, that every sparrow’s counted,
That you hear their cries and listen to each prayer.

Father, as you see, I’m just a child, and there’s so much to understand
But if Your Grace should surround me, then I’ll do the best I can
I promise, I’ll do the very best I can…”

And why not? And why not let it begin now?

Why not let the change we want to see in the world around us, begin with you, and with me, now?

Be the change you want to see in the world.

Believe it will happen.

And with Him, through you, it very well may.

In His Name — Scott
