Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“You are the light of the world…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven…
Matthew 5: 14, 16 (ESV)

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13: 35 (ESV)

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
Matthew 5: 9 (ESV)

Just a thought as we start the New Year together.

Why not think on, maybe even begin to internalize, those few words spoken by Jesus Christ, above.

Not just you and me, but everyone in our home town, our respective states, and in our nation and world.

An unrealistic expectation.

Maybe. But maybe not for an eternal optimist as Christ is.

He shared those words—so He must have a supernatural sense and vision that just maybe it could happen.

But for starters, how about at least—you and I—commit to do that.

When Lynda and I were Governor and 1st Lady of The Florida District Kiwanis in 1992-1993—comprised of 350 Kiwanis Clubs, over 16,000 members, 10,000 plus Key Club members in our state high schools, and over 1,000 Circle K member in our colleges—we had a song we adopted as our theme song for the year.

And so at the end of each one of hundreds of conferences, meetings, service projects and other functions through the year and all around Florida, we all stood to sing and commit to the message of these words—

“Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me
Let There Be Peace on Earth, the peace that was meant to be
With God as our Father, brothers all are we
Let me walk with my brother, in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally,
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.”

Any thoughts for where we might do that today, share the essence of that message, with all of our additional communication mediums, including social media, more readily available to us?

The passages containing the words of Christ, above, make clear that as His disciples we are light, we are to love one another in His name, and we will be blessed and called sons [and daughters] of God as His peacemakers in the world around us.

Look around. Maybe doing that would help.

What have we got to lose?

Call me crazy—but, it just might work.

Call me crazy—but since Christ said it—it will work.

In His Name–Scott
