Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose?”

Romans 8:31 (The Message)

What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Romans 8:31 (NIV)

In case you haven’t noticed, today is not yesterday.

It is a brand new day. Ready?

Maybe a day of uncertainty, and maybe some doubt. But for sure a day of brand new beginnings.

A number of years ago, after I graduated from the University of Florida School of Law and had passed The Florida Bar Exam, I had the privilege to be sworn into The Florida Bar, at the Supreme Court of Florida in Tallahassee. Even more, I had my bride, Lynda, and son, Nathan, with me as I was sworn in with two-hundred other soon-to-be lawyers.

After the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court asked the standard questions of all of us and then administered the oath for entry into The Florida Bar, he shared some brief remarks. One thing he said we have all heard before, but it hit me that day with a new reality.

We had worked hard to get where we were that day, he noted, reached the top of another ladder, finishing law school and passing the bar exam. Now we were starting again, at the very first step of the threshold of a brand new career, a brand new day, with a fresh new door opening before us. He encouraged us to work hard at it, demonstrate integrity in all that you do, and be patient with yourself.

To put it bluntly—we were starting once again at the bottom rung of the ladder. It was a brand new day and I realized I was once again at the very beginning of something—starting all over again.

But later that day, I was reminded of another point I needed to add to what the Chief Justice had shared. A point that provided the assurance and strength I would need as I stepped out and started anew—

God was there.

God was for me.

And God would go with me.

And in those assurances, I would find the peace I would need as I started out on that new day and that new adventure stepping through that new door.

That’s what you and I need to remember every day of our lives. With each new day, God is always opening a new door for you and for me. And He is not only with you, and alongside you, but even more than that He is waiting for each of us where we are headed. How about that! He is there with you. He is rooting for you. And He is waiting for you in all your tomorrows. So be patient with yourself, rest assured in those promises, and allow His overarching peace to protect and comfort you as you go.

That’s the picture of a God who is always for you. A God who is always with you and me. A God who always has you in His embrace. A God who calls us to follow Him into being the best He created us to be as we step out into each new day, into each new adventure and new opportunity.

He opens the doors, and walks through them with us.

That’s enough. So, go ahead, step out. God’s got you.

In His Name—Scott
