Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?…
And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!”
Psalm 27: 1, 6, 13-14 (NKJV)

It happens every day.

Circumstances we were planning on for the next steps change, and we don’t know which way is next.

It happens.

People we believed we could count on change. Leaving us standing all alone.

It happens when opportunities to move ahead loom before us, believing them to be the next steps, direction and purpose for our lives.

But then mountains rise up seemingly too high for us to scale, and valleys stretch into the distance too long to cross.

It happens.

So, discouragement sets in as we try to move forward, hoping for a miracle.

And instead, too often, we stop, sit and wait, not sure at all what to do next.

In our better moments, we want to have an impact for good in the world around us. But in our own power—disappointment, despair and defeat seem to descend too often and discourage us from moving forward.

Then David reminds us in Psalm 27, what he learned, for us to embrace in our lives—

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”

And then David began to move forward, not under David’s plan and power, but with the plan, power and direction of his Lord sustaining Him, sharing with us in verses 13-14, that—

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!”

Not David’s plan. But God’s.

Not David’s power. But God’s.

Not our plan, or power. But God’s.

All from the goodness of God.

PS. Let me suggest taking another moment to see and hear Jenn Johnson, along with some of the Bethel Music group sing “Goodness of God.”
