Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…
“What is all this arguing about?” Jesus asked. One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, ‘Teacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that won’t let him talk. And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldn’t do it.’
Jesus said to them, ‘You faithless people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.’
So they brought the boy. But when the evil spirit saw Jesus, it threw the child into a violent convulsion, and he fell to the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth.
‘How long has this been happening?’ Jesus asked the boy’s father. He replied, ‘Since he was a little boy. The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.’
‘What do you mean, ‘If I can’?’ Jesus asked. ‘Anything is possible if a person believes.’
The father instantly cried out, ‘I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!’
Mark 9: 16-24 (NLT)
Life. Your life and mine. As great as it can be, is pretty tough at times.
You know that from personal experiences in more times that you can remember.
So do I.
Times when we have no answers, and don’t know the way ahead or through.
And even if we did, the energy and passion needed is not there.
Ever have one of those days or seasons where you wished something beyond your ability would suddenly appear to help?
Something like a miracle. Maybe we need a miracle. From God.
If miracles are still around.
Think about this for a moment—what if God performed more miracles this coming week than ever before.
Would we even notice? Would we even expect something like that to happen?
What if I told you, on reliable word, that last week the records show that God performed more miracles than at any other similar time frame in history?
Did you notice?
Is God still in the miracle business? Is God still there?
When was the last time you saw a newborn baby? Or been blown away by a colorfully warm and inspiring sunset. Or awakened by a radiant sunrise.
Or were feeling down and depressed, until God poked a long-time friend to call you and lift you to where you needed to be.
The God of newborn babies, sunsets, and sunrises, and inspired phone calls and other lifting interventions in our lives, is the same God who moves mountains and breaks chains that try to hold us back and points us each day to all He created us to be.
Why not look for it. Why not believe for it.
In her song “Believe For It” CeCe Winans shares these thoughts for us to remember in those moments when we feel empty and lost—
“They say this mountain can’t be moved.
They say these chains will never break.
But they don’t know You like we do.
There is power in Your name.
We’ve heard that there is no way through.
We’ve heard the tide will never change.
They haven’t seen what You can do.
There is power in Your name.
So much power in Your name.
Move the immovable. Break the unbreakable.
God, we believe, God, we believe for it.
From the impossible, we’ll see a miracle.
God, we believe, God, we believe for it…”
Our God of all creation is always actively at work in our lives.
Providing a hand of help, healing, and hope for all and anything we face.
Performing miracles. More than ever.
Ask for them. Look for them. Believe for them.
Believe for it—to happen, for you, and for me.
