Thoughts
Always Worthy, Always There
Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone…
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9: 2, 6 (ESV)“Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.”
Hebrews 4: 14-16 (MSG)
Consider these thoughts for a moment—
“Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave.
He was David’s root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave.
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory.
Is He worthy? Is He worthy? Is He worthy of this?”

Is He worthy? Is He there?
Really?
I wonder what would cause someone to ask those questions about God. And write that song.
I wonder if they were asking those questions because of how you and I feel at times, as well as for themselves.
Despite all that we know of God. All that we believe about God.
Or do we?
Instead, we find ourselves having more times of feeling disconnected and distant, rather than close.
We have all been there. Aware of God, but distant.
Uncertain. Concerned. Feeling disconnected from God, and feeling all alone. But still with a tiny bit of hope.
The writer of Hebrews adds a word, a promise for us to support that hope. Something to forever remember and claim no matter whatever we face, when he says—
“Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.”
Ready access to God, and He is totally aware of the reality of what is going on in our lives. He has been there, and He is there with us now to walk with and help us.
Remembering our better moments with God, these words also in the song “Is He Worthy?” provide this further assurance from our God who loves us—
“Does the Father truly love us? He does.
Does the Spirit move among us? He does.
And does Jesus, our Messiah hold forever those He loves? He does.
Does our God intend to dwell again with us?
He does…
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory…
He is! He is!”
Always worthy.
Always there.

I have been emailing these “early morning thoughts” each Monday morning since March 17, 2003…
But there was one Monday, June 19, 2006, I intentionally didn’t email them out, and instead sent them out the next day—Tuesday, June 20, 2006.
The Price of Liberty
American heroes.
So many, for so long, have paid the price for us, beginning at Bunker Hill and Lexington and Concord and down through Valley Forge. They made the first payment for us. And that payment has been kept up-to-date through the Argonne, Normandy, Iwo Jima, Tarawa, Pusan and Pork Chop Hill, and across a thousand hills in Southeast Asia, and the burning sands of the Persian Gulf and Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan.
Live Now
As my friend remembered the story, a friend of his in Birmingham, Alabama was driving home from the office one day, when he got caught in an unexpected traffic slow-down. Sitting there in the car, he realized after a short while in the stop-and-go traffic, that he would be late for the plans which he and his bride had made for the evening.
