Even at Spring Training

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.
Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.
No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8: 38-39 (NLT)

The feeling returns every now and then.

You can probably identify with it.

I remember a moment a few years ago.

My bride and I were with friends at spring training with the Colorado Rockies in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona.

While there one Sunday, we attended Scottsdale Bible Church.

Despite that worshipful setting and moment, I was only physically there.

Remembrances of recent disappointments, heartaches and uncertainties created a cloud of doubt and distance from my bride and friends in that moment.

Feeling all alone.

We’ve all been there. Facing difficulties and decisions. Personal issues, relationships, battles, challenges, heart-wrenching losses—our plates are full and heavy.

And we feel all alone.

My thoughts returned to the setting as the worship choir began to sing Matt Redman’s song, “Never Once”, which I had never heard before—

“Standing on this mountaintop, looking just how far we’ve come
Knowing that for every step, You were with us…
Scars and struggles on the way, but with joy our hearts can say…
Never once did we ever walk alone,
Never once did You leave us on our own
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
Kneeling on this battle ground, seeing just how much You’ve done
Knowing every victory, was from Your power…
Carried by Your constant grace, held within Your perfect peace…
Never once… did…we ever walk alone…
Never once did You leave us on our own
Never once…”

With tears rolling down my face, I knew once again, that in the midst of whatever I was feeling and going through, God was there.

Never once had He left my side. I knew that even though I felt all alone, I never was. God was there all the time.

We’ve all been there—at any and every age. And probably will be again.

Jesus knew what it was like to be all alone many times while He walked among us, especially on that day He went to the cross.

We’ve all felt alone, looking down long, dark, and winding roads stretching out before us, uncertain where they would lead, and what the next steps would bring.

But, my friends, never once did we ever walk alone.

No matter where you and I have been, where we are, or where we will be—spring training or somewhere else—never once were we alone, and never once will we be alone.

God is always there.

God’s always got us.

In His Name–Scott

PS. Listen and be blessed by Matt Redman singing “Never Once.”
