Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“O Lord our God, the majesty and glory of your name fills all the earth and overflows the heavens. You have taught the little children to praise you perfectly. May their example shame and silence your enemies!
When I look up into the night skies and see the work of your fingers—the moon and the stars you have made—I cannot understand how you can bother with mere puny man, to pay any attention to him! And yet you have made him only a little lower than the angels and placed a crown of glory and honor upon his head.
You have put him in charge of everything you made; everything is put under his authority: all sheep and oxen, and wild animals too, the birds and fish, and all the life in the sea. O Jehovah, our Lord, the majesty and glory of your name fills the earth.”

After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them…
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1: 1-2, 9 (NLT)

The long-time leader of the Israelite nation, Moses has died, and the Lord appoints Joshua to take over. 

With knees shaking and palms sweating, Joshua hears the Lord’s words anointing him into his new role, telling him to “…be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

It may not be that easy, Lord, Joshua no doubt thinks.

As we look back at 2024, and now ahead at the vast expanse of 2025 stretching out before us, most of us can identify with Joshua. 

And “thanks” might not be the first words that roll off our trembling lips. 

“Are you kidding me?” would probably be a more likely response.

We know as we look into the night skies and everywhere else around us, that God is the Creator of everything we can see and beyond. He is majestic and glorious.

And uncertainty, doubt, loneliness, and feelings of inadequacy abound within us.

Yet, we see in this moment with Joshua, and in so many other times in Scripture, and in our lives, that God is mindful of us. Clearly—He loves and cares for us.

Like our recent celebration of the birth of His Son shows us, as He sent His Son to earth for you and for me, and for our eternal salvation.  

As David pens in Psalm 8, he believes God values him, and God values us, demonstrated by God’s making us just a little lower than the Angels, putting us in charge of His creation, while placing a crown of glory and honor on our heads.

Who can comprehend such unconditional love, grace, belief, trust, mercy, respect, and honor. 

Certainly the selfless, compassionate, majestic, Divine, glorious, alive, and eternal God of all Creation.

The One Who is worthy of our worship and praise.

The One, Tom Fettke tried to capture in his song, “The Majesty and Glory of Your Name,” with some of these words—

“When I gaze into the night skies,
and see the work of your fingers;
The moon and stars suspended in space.
Oh, what is man that you are mindful of him?
You have given man a crown of glory and honor.
And have made him a little lower than the angels.
You have put him in charge of all creation:
The beasts of the field.
The birds of the air, the fish of the sea…
O Lord, our God the majesty and glory of your name,
Transcends the earth and fills the heavens.
O Lord, our God; little children praise You perfectly,
And so would we. And so would we…”

Feel like Joshua every now and then? Especially now as you look ahead into the long tunnel of 2025 stretching out before you.

Remember this—we are not alone. Never, never alone. 

The God of all creation sees us, loves us, and will always go with us.

God’s got us. 

The majesty and glory of His name—is to be praised.
