Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…
“But to all who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God. All they needed to do was to trust Him to save them.”
John 1: 12 (TLB)“For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”
Galatians 3: 26 (NLT)“And I will be your Father, and you will be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
II Corinthians 6: 18 (NLT)“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”
Colossians 3: 23-24 (NKJV)
Have you noticed that children and grandchildren start out with eyes-wide-open—with excitement marking their lives—as they explore the wonders of God’s creation all around them.
And, also, seeming to believe in the wonder of God’s creation—which is them.
But as they grow older, they begin to lose that child-like sense of wonder in the life God created them to live.
And begin to accept what was, and what is, and what will be. That is not how God intended it to be—for them, or for us.
I wonder if it is because the world begins to push that sense of wonder out of their lives, that sense of all that can be, by asking them “what they do.”
“What have you done lately?” “What have you accomplished?”
And those young ears, minds, and hearts begin to buy into a life defined by a world focused on “doing.”
Rather than focusing on “who they are.” Focusing on who God created them “to be” instead of a focus on what “to do.”
Remembering that they are a child of the King. A child of the King of Kings.
A focus seeking to please God, reaching out with all the passion and potential God placed within them, to be all He created them to be.
And as those young ears, minds, and hearts become a bit older, and then older still, it is we who find ourselves locked into a life trying to meet the expectations of the world, rather than the expectations of God and all He created our lives to be.
Forgetting that we are the children of the King. Each, a child of the King of Kings.
I am blessed by friendships with many talented and gifted individuals. Friends, and family, who know Who they serve, and they accomplish things which have a significant impact for good in the world.
They have heard me time-and-time again say to them—
“I am really proud of all you have accomplished. But I am more proud of who you are deep within, and Who you serve.”
So, in the midst of the pull of a world spinning all around us, always pointing us to stuff, image, trophies, resumes, worldly achievements, and acclaim with all the accompanying applause that eventually dies, why not try this.
Remember that you are a child of the King.
The King whose name is highest, greatest, above all thrones and dominions, above all powers and positions. A King whose name stands above all there is and ever will be.
Remember together, that you are, that I am, a child of the King.
In the song “Holy Forever” sung by Chris Tomlin, Jenn and Brian Johnson, we are reminded of that—
“A thousand generations falling down in worship,
To sing the song of ages to the Lamb.
And all who’ve gone before us and all who will believe,
Will sing the song of ages to the Lamb…
If you’ve been forgiven and if you’ve been redeemed,
Sing the song forever to the Lamb.
If you walk in freedom and if you bear His name,
Sing the song forever to the Lamb.
We’ll sing the song forever and amen…
Your name is the highest, Your name is the greatest.
Your name stands above them all, All thrones and dominions,
All powers and positions.
Your name stands above them all…
Hear Your people sing holy, To the King of kings, holy.
You will always be holy, Holy forever…”
You and I, and all those we love.
Children of God.
Our God to worship, praise, lift high—as Holy Forever.
In His Name–Scott
