Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.”
Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NIV)

We are an interesting people.

Here are some of our responses when things don’t work out as we had planned—frustration, casting blame and throwing in the towel. Questioning God and wondering why, what happened and where it all went wrong.

And perhaps the worst response of all—while reeling in total frustration, resignation and defeat—turning from Him.

Solomon, the author of both passages of scripture above, is recognized as wise. Yet we also see in reading through his writings, that he didn’t always have it all together, and it wasn’t until he neared the end of his life that he grew in the wisdom and stature we attribute to him.

At the end of his life after famously sharing that worldly life and values are not what they are cracked up to be, by saying—“all the things that are done under the sun: all of them are meaningless, a chasing after wind,” he then declares this ultimate truth for our lives—

“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.”

The world is in a bit of a mess. Our personal lives are up and down, and coupled with things going on in the nation and world around us, we have many days where the readings on our “hope meters” peg pretty low.

Why?

Could it be who or what we are committed to following?

The words in this song, “I’ll Just Say Yes” by Brian Courtney Wilson suggest our commitment and path for moving forward in each day, regardless of the stuff going on personally or in the world around us, might be better if it were like this—

“I’ll just say yes, You (Lord) lead the way
I’m not afraid of what it means for me to say
that this life You gave is not my own,
I’m trusting You to hear my yes and lead me on
Yes Lord, yes Lord, my life is Yours
I’ll just say yes. You lead the way…
I’m not afraid of what it means for me to say this life
You gave is not my own
I’m trusting You to hear my yes and lead me on
I’ll just say yes…
… Yes Lord, yes Lord, my life is Yours,
Yes Lord, yes Lord, my life is Yours…”

Here’s a thought for us and all we face and will face.

Why not each day simply follow the suggestion of this verse—“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”

Why not, in everything we face, in the midst of everything spinning around us, and at every crossroads we find ourselves standing at time-and-again, why not just do that—commit to the Lord, commit to His way for our lives, and then move ahead with Him in the lead.

Why not, no matter what we face in each day of our lives—

Just say—Yes Lord.

Then follow.
