Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…
“I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
Philippians 3: 12-14 (NLT)
Election Day 2024 around the United States is over.
Now what? Looking backwards? Rehashing what was and what might have been?
That is what some may do.
Veteran’s Day 2024 is being recognized around the United States today.
A time when we pause to remember, thank, and honor those who stood in the gap for America. For you and for me. For our freedom and security.
Generations standing in the gap for generations to come.
Standing for America.
Here’s a thought—why not return the favor to those Veterans.
Why not honor our Veterans by moving forward together.
By standing together in all the gaps which separate us—for our Nation, for each other, and for generations to follow.
Forgetting and forgiving all that went before.
All that was said and unsaid.
Not making it about ourselves.
Instead, pressing on for America and its heritage, values, foundations, and for each other, to be all we can be—together under God.
So many, for so long, paid the price for us, beginning at Bunker Hill and Lexington and Concord and down through Valley Forge.
They made the first payment for us.
And that payment has been kept up to date through the Argone, Normandy, Iwo Jima, Tarawa, Pusan, and Pork Chop Hill, and across a thousand hills in Southeast Asia and the burning sands of the Persian Gulf, Iraq, and the mountains of Afghanistan.
They paid the price for us.
And on days like today, Veteran’s Day, and every day, maybe we need to have a life-changing paradigm shift as we reflect on and embrace what they did for us.
Putting our self-interests, personal agendas, and disappointments aside, to remember, thank, and honor them and the heroic price and sacrifice they contributed to our heritage, which they steadfastly established and maintained for all of us throughout our history.
Some of them never came back, and others came back on stretchers, crutches, in wheelchairs, and in boxes, while still others were spit upon and ridiculed.
Heroes, one and all, who stood for us so that you and I, and our children and grandchildren, might live and sit here today in freedom.
They paid the price for us.
They deserve our best. It would honor them.
To step up and stand in the gap with them and for them, and in that, honoring them—by moving forward together as America—as one Nation under God.
Once again, pressing on as a Nation and being a noble example to the world and our children, working together civilly and productively through differences, and aligning ourselves and decisions with our heritage, values, rule of law, and Constitution.
Following Christ’s words in John 13: 34-35, when He says—
“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
Then together moving this great Nation forward to be all she can be—surrendered to God’s protection, blessing, leadership, and direction.
It would honor those Veterans who stepped up and stood in the gap for us and America. Wouldn’t it?
They are the very best, as are those who serve today.
Just a thought to remember, thank, and honor our Veterans today and every day. And move America to being all she can be with God’s guidance.
“God bless America, land that I love, stand beside her and guide her,
Through the night with the light from above…
God bless America, my home sweet home.
God bless America, my home sweet home”
Amen and Amen.
In His Name–Scott
Be blessed and ready to stand in the gap with our Veterans and all other Americans, as you watch and listen to Celine Dion sing “God Bless America” aboard the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in a National Salute to the US Military.
