No More Night – Our Choice

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’
He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!…Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.’”
Revelation 21: 3-5, 7 (NIV)

“No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.”
Revelation 22: 3-5 (NIV)

It’s one of my favorite books of the Bible.

Full of moments of worship of our Lord.

Full of hope for our future in Heaven with Him, and God’s never-ending invitations to believe in His Son and His death and resurrection—for you and for me.

The eternal promises in the book of Revelation are ours—as believers in Christ—for now and forever.

So, when nothing in our lives seems to be going well, and the answers and assurances of a better day tomorrow aren’t forthcoming from the world around us, where do we turn?

In the time we have left.

Maybe remember that our future is not dependent upon the world situation, no matter how sad it may seem at times, but it is dependent upon what Christ did on the cross 2,000 years ago and our acceptance or rejection of Him—God’s Son.

The One the Apostle John says—

“Will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

The God of all creation.

The One who the Reverend Billy Graham served and looked to, and was referring to when he shared—

“Some day you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God.”

The One who John referred to in Revelation when he wrote—

“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!…Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.’”

And the moment John writes about in Revelation 22: 3-5, and David Phelps sings about in the song “No More Night” as he shares—

“No more night, no more pain, no more tears, never crying again.
And praises to the great ‘I am’ we will live in the Light of the risen Lamb.
See all around, now the nations bow down to sing,
The only sound is the praises to Christ, our King.
Slowly the names from the book are read,
I know the King, so there’s no need, no need to dread.
No more night, no more pain, no more tears, never crying again.
And praises to the great ‘I am’ we will live in the Light of the risen Lamb.”

The way is clear. The pathway to eternal life with Christ.

The pathway to an eternity with no more night, no more pain, no more tears, never crying again.

A pathway to an eternity living in the Light of the risen Lamb.

Our choice. In the time left.

“Gran,” and then she paused for a moment to make sure she had my attention as she finished climbing onto the kitchen counter. I could tell from the inflection in her voice that something serious was on the way.
“Yes, sweetie.” I readied myself for what was coming.
“Gran—how was God born with nobody?”

Lynda likes to remind everyone again that she was much younger than me when we were married—despite the fact that we were in the same class in high school together. But she seems to pull it off. I like to share with everyone who expresses joy for us, and at times surprise (I think their surprise comes as a result of their knowing me) at our grand accomplishment of longevity together—that every day that Lynda lets me back in the house, well it’s a good day for me.

Memorial Day – Our Call to Duty

Memorial Day – Our Call to Duty

Indifference is too often missed for its true nature—the entry point on the slippery slope causing us to set aside our personal and moral responsibility toward others, toward this nation, and toward the One who is our Lord and Savior. Indifference is the enemy of duty—a duty divinely set within us to be all we are created to be for others, for this nation and those who have gone before us, and for this world.
